Hair

Spending every night for the past three weeks at the theatre has left me little time to watch T.V so I have been watching one or two episodes of Degrassi High on DVD while eating my dinner at the ridiculous time of 5pm. Daddy Smaggle walked past during one of the episodes and made a comment about how stupid Spike’s hair is. I freakin LOVED her hair and since watching the episodes in adulthood I never really put her hair in a modern context. It’s rather bizarre. But the 12 year old inside me still thinks she is awesome. Even though she got knocked up in year 8. And yes I know that a few of you will sneer at these pictures and the word ‘fugly’ may be thrown around but just ask yourself what would you think if one of the Facehunter girls was snapped with a do like this? I think we all know the answer…

And this got me thinking about other hairstyles that I coveted and whether or not they would be easily translated into the noughties?

Jessica Rabbit’s bright red wavey mane.

Stephanie Tanner’s crazy curls and asymmetrical ponies. She also had a hair crimp-er. So cool.

Punky Brewster’s little piggy tails and shaggy fringe. Seriously this could be a picture of me when I was 6…

Stephanie Zinone from Grease 2. I actually thought her roots were cool. I kind of still do just a little…

What do you guys think? Would any of you take a step back in time to emulate the do of a past idol?

I’m about to do something a little crazy to my hair next week. I’m not sure whether I should post a dress rehearsal (because with bobby pins and hairspray I can kind of fake the look) or should I bite the bullet and deal with the consequences later? Advice is needed!

Hair Dilemma

Being the disgruntled owner of the the Smaggle Crop is starting to wear thin. When I was sixteen it was a veritable mess of frizzy curl and pen lids were known to disappear into there for days. My pet budgie experienced a few tense moments in fro as well. As I am getting older the curls are softening and and the underneath is turning straight and it’s annoying the crap out me. My lovely new hairdresser Johnny worked wonders with it last time I got it cut so I returned for a colour job yesterday. I asked for something crazy and wild. He enthusiastically replied that he was going to do big chunks of black, red and gold all through it and it would look marvelous with my complexion. 2 1/2 hours and $150 later I look like this… sidehari.jpg fonrt.jpg

Exactly the same as I looked yesterday. Excellent. I am obviously not happy but what do to do in such a situation? He is a fabulous cutter who is booked to the max all the time and he is lovely. He also cuts the hair of Mr Smaggle and his mother! So naturally cutting ties (so to speak) would be difficult but I want to keep him anyway because he is awesome at cutting. I have decided I have to do one of three things…

* I can call and complain and have him do what I asked. This option makes me look like a whingey bitch but at least I get what I paid for. This also makes future hair cuts quite awkward. And possibly non-existant.

* I can wait until my appointment in December and complain then. This is the pussy option but at least he won’t get offended. And a retrospective complaint will be much nicer than the one he would he get if I spoke to him today.

* I can get someone else to colour it in the meantime and then go to him for cuts only and let the colour of my hair tell the story of disappointment.

Suggestions? Like how to get over the fact that I just set fire to $150? Oh and that’s $150 WITH NO CUT. Scissors did not touch my hair. Angry face.

Wedding Style

Yesterday one of my good friends got married at the Botanical Gardens. It was a secret wedding so no-one  knew about it until she arrived in a white gown. I was her stylist and here some pics of my handy-work. I think she looks gorgeous and that my styling had very little to do with it. She wore a white fluffy gown with a sweetheart neckline and the gown had little ribbon roses sewn all over it. I made a hairpiece from a feather pad  that I bought from greatqualitylowprices on Ebay and I used some left over fabric from when the dress was hemmed. I also made three glass pearl bracelets with matching earrings.

Wedding Outfit

After spending the afternoon with the bride and bridesmaid I managed to find 5 minutes to get dressed before I ran to the ceremony to warn the groom that she was on her way!

  • White shift dress from Big W
  • Black 3/4 sleeve top from Valley Girl
  • Red wedges from Big W
  • Black opaques from Myer
  • Black chunky chain necklace from Itrip Iskip

All in all it was a lovely day and the bride and groom are very happy together! Congrats to the MacFunks!

Hair Jewels

I saw a girl  in a shop the other day wearing tracksuit pants and hair jewels. It was an odd ensemble but her hair looked amazing. It was a blessing in disguise that she had not attempted to style her hair in any way because she had haphazardly shoved these hair clips all over her head which resulted in a fabulous Amy Winehouse kind of birds nest creation. I couldn’t resist trying it out myself and promptly purchased three of the same jewelled hair band from Equip with the intention of wearing them at the same time. The over all effect wasn’t brilliant because my hair is thick and dark and it’s hard to get any hair clips to stand out but here is the general effect. They also gave me a headache after a while. These also look the best when I have my head down or if you are looking at them from a great height which is difficult because there aren’t too many people around that are taller than me.

Hmmm…

So maybe it will be just one chopstick pic until I can figure out how to upload more than one photo at a time. But happy choppy hair town until I figure it out!

Chopstick Chick

Recently I have an overwhelming desire to wear chopsticks in my hair. Not speared into a severe eye stretching bun but more in a tousled curly tendrils kind of way. I blame Piper Perabo in Coyote Ugly when she is sitting at her piano writing that irritating  song about the guy from Tap Dogs. Anyways here some piccies of gals who have whole kitchen utensil has a hair accessory thing going on.
