Death Bed - Daily Style

Today was a pretty great day, I’ve been like a little productivy machine. I just want to get everything done before I go away for the long weekend! I can’t wait - Just a lovely cabin by the beach with a stack of books and magazines and my honey by my side. This afternoon I’m off to buy a new notebook for my Japanese lessons and some hair product. Having serious hair issues at the moment…

*  Top from Target

* Skirt from Cowboys and Angels

* Shoes from Gertrude Street in Melbourne

* Butterfly ring from Diva

* Necklace Smaggle made

And just to let you know, there is no need to panic. Contrary to what today’s picture depicts I am not dying from the plague or any other colour draining illness. I’m just quite naturally pale and sickly looking.

Art Imitating Life… imitating… Lady Smaggle?

Have I officially introduced you all to my lovely friend Ged? He is Ged of ‘Matt & Ged’ fame. The Matt & Ged who are the source of some seriously awesome accessories, the creators of my South Park twin, the inspiration behind my Men’s Scarf post and they are also serial commenters who support my blog in a way that makes me all warm and gooey inside. Matt is a fabulous director who I’ve worked with countless times and Ged is his partner in design crime, painting and ‘frocking’ the sets of Matt’s productions. Ged has recently started his own blog Ged Art where he uploads paintings that he is working on and rambles about what is inspiring him and artists that he admires. He sent me his latest entry and I have to say I’m totally chuffed…

Lady Smaggle is a muse! This gorgeous wee painting was inspired by my little post about wearing birds in your hair. What a big fat blush-o-rama! I am seriously surprised that anyone reads my blog at all but to have someone actually paint a picture inspired by something I wrote is freakin ridiculous. I have always loved Ged’s work because he draws his inspiration from such a diverse range of places like fashion, film, literature, photography and theatre. I also love that his characters in his portraits all look like they have secrets. Seriously check out his blog and you’ll see what I mean…

So sleepy - Daily Style

I bloody hate Grey’s Anatomy. I can’t eat, I can’t sleep and I can’t muster a single non-surgical thought until I finish season 2. I was up until 1am this morning waiting for Denny to die, waiting for Christina to melt her ice queen snow and commit to Burke and waiting for George to grow some testicles. And after 6 episodes in a row none of the above has happened and Mr Smaggle and Mr Squiggle (the man’s brother) are refusing to speak to me until stop calling Dr Sheppard ‘McDreamy’. I think I need counselling. Today was fairly quiet at work but Browny and I mustered up enough energy to go for a walk. This afternoon I’m off to buy fruit and some ingredients to make Mr Smaggle some wheat-free treats!

* Read dress from Tree of Life

* Grey top from SES

* Vest thrifted from Salvation Army

* Scarf from Sportsgirl

* Black knee high socks (I believe these belong to Mama Smaggle)

* Brown flats from Payless

So… has anyone else been watching Grey’s Anatomy?

Stephanie Simek - Teeny Tiny Trinkets

A little while ago I wrote a post on quirky jewellery designers and I featured the talented Stephanie Simek and her kooky eyelash necklaces.

Well Miss Simek is back at it again and has released a new piece that just gets my heart quivering…

It’s called the Powder Necklace, consisting of a tiny little shell on a sterling silver chain with a wee funnel on the clasp. Curious as to what the funnel is for? It’s for filling the shell with shimmer dust and when you tap it gently the glitter falls out of the tiny holes and leaves a delicate sheen across your decolletage. How freakin gorgeous is that? I have been a little scared to purchase one of Miss Simek’s charming creations because I am basically a thumping great giant and these trinkets look delicate enough to be crushed by my steely gaze alone. However Stephanie was kind enough to send me one of the powder necklaces recently and it’s really sturdy dispite it’s delicate appearence. The perfect combination.

I received SO MANY compliments while wearing this little gem it’s ridiculous. It’s really subtle and quite unlike any jewellery that I usually wear but it was a real little attention grabber. I was pimping this necklace all day - I gave out Stephanie’s web address twice! I think there is just something very decadent about wearing shimmer dust during the day and people are always fascinated by jewellery that is more than ornamental.

Stephanie currently lives in Portland, Oregan and runs an art and music space called Rererato which was once a Hare Krishna temple. She is not only a jewellery designer but also an artist and is currently working on a piece based on science-project inspired photographs. She is such a quirky little devil using the most unusual of ideas to create simple, beautiful and surprisingly classic pieces.

Here are links to a few stores in Australia that sell her range.

Or if you are internet savvy you can skip on over to her gorgeous website Stephanie Simek and check out her wearables. I love that she has only a few very simple and beautiful designs on offer. It just makes it all the more precious if you are lucky enough to own one…

P.S I totally love that this necklace looks just the one Ursula the sea-witch wears in The Little Mermaid!!!

7 things to avoid doing while sick at home…

I’m sick. So sick that I can barely look at my computer without feeling like I’m going to vomit all over it. There will be no daily outfit shots because I’ve been wearing brown pyjamas and knee high wool socks for the past two days. But because I love you I must post - tis the curse of the addicted blogger. Here are a few things I have discovered that you should not do when sick…

1. Don’t watch four hours of Grey’s Anatomy in a row. Especially if you are a hypercondriac. I have myself convinced that I am suffering a by-lateral brain haemorrhage and severe muscle eclampsia caused by the fact that I have obviously been poisoned by my own shampoo.

2. Don’t repeat number 1.

3. Don’t eat soy ice cream when nauseous. It’s literally blended soy trying to imitate a dairy product and I’m beginning to wonder why I ever eat it. Oh and don’t put chocolate sauce on it either. It’s kind of like dipping kidney beans in sherbet.

4. Don’t wrap yourself in wool blankets while wearing three jumpers and drinking hot tea. It’s pretty uncomfortable when you start sweating out your fever.

5. Don’t paint your nails. The fumes will literally knock you unconscious.

6. Don’t do washing. When you suspect you have gastro, bending down and stretching up repeatedly is BAD!

7. Don’t pluck your eyebrows when your vision is less than ideal. It’s not attractive to bleed from the eyebrows.

Normal posting will resume as soon as I am able to read for longer than 30 seconds and when I can also sit down without falling asleep…

Deer Antler Bag

Oh drool town. Do you have any idea how badly I could kick your arse with this bag? I’d be like a Cruella De Ville baby seal skin pimping bitch. Shit yes. The antlers aren’t real, (thank god - the ick factor would be too great to handle) they are hand crafted using crazy things like poly-whachmacallit and glass. The body of the bag is 100% pure wool and it comes in brown, black and teal. Be warned I’m about to ruin your day… there are only thirty-six of them in the entire world. You are more likely to get cancer than you are likely to own one of these bags. Fashion is a bitch. Have a great weekend.

Satin - Daily Style

Today I did my usual work-like-a-demon-all-day-and-hope-to-get-everything-done-by-the-end-of-the-day thing and to my utter surprise I managed to get everything done. I have nothing to do at work right now. It’s only 10 minutes until home time but I’m pretty impressed! This afternoon I’m off to the gym but I am doing my lame work out this afternoon. My lame work out is when I don’t feel like doing anything so I get a magazine and cycle slowly on the stationary bike trying not to sweat. Then I’m off to meet Mr Smaggle and Mr Squiggle (my man’s brother) for a quick coffee and some nachos before we head to Japanese lessons.

* Black opaques from Myer

* Satin dress from Iskip Itrip

* Black cardigan from Target

* Jelly baby necklace from Myo Designs by Tae Schmeisser

* Mango coral bracelet Smaggle made

* Boots from Nine West

Wearable Art - Balloon Twisted Couture!

I received an email yesterday from my lovely friend Felicity and it had all these random photos of girls wearing dresses made entirely from twisted balloons. There was no reference to what the event was, where it was held or where the photos had come from. So sorry for not referencing whoever took these photos but they are too cool not to share…

Red Tights - Daily Style

Another super busy day at work today but it’s nearly over. I’m laughing in this photo because right before Browny took it I said ‘Legs akimbo!’ and then cacked myself at how funny I am. Simple things amuse me. This afternoon I’m off to the gym and then Mr Smaggle and I are eating sushi for dinner while he does his radio show and I read fashion magazines. Then we are going on a good old fashioned week night movie date…

* Dress from Melbourne

* Cardigan from Target

* Bangle from Diva

* Opaques from Target

* Boots from Redpath

* Shell necklace from Stephanie Simek (more to come about this little gem soon!)
