Autumn 2008 Wishlist Revised

Now that it’s starting to get majorly chilly here in the old Berra (Canberra for those of you who don’t know where I live) I thought it might be time to seriously get cracking on my Autumn 2008 Wishlist

* Over the knee or knee high socks - I got the Prada knock-offs from American Apparel which I love. They have heaps more colours in store now so I’m going to stock up. Part of me really wants the mustard ones…

* Tights in every colour - I’ve started on this already I have red and turquoise and an awesome pair of paisley ones. And if you read my earlier post you’ll be expecting to see some white ones soon too.

* Black boots - Work in progress. I am thinking of just buying my brown boots in black because I love them so much.

* A long string of ivory coloured beads - This is really hard because they are either really cheap and nasty or super expensive (but heartbreakingly beautiful) resin. Working on it…

* A rose garland necklace - Well I have to make this and my crafting motivation has been questionable lately. We’ll see how it goes.

* Vests - I got an awesome crocheted one and I’m still searching for more.

* A trench coat - This is also difficult because all of the trenchcoats this season are Stella McCartney rip-offs with poofy sleeves. Still working on it.

* Converse All Stars - I wanted these for when I go to Japan because I will be walking heaps but my sneaker freak friend told me that Converse offer no support and that I should go for Adidas or Nike. Any suggestions? I need non-ugly super comfortable really funky sneakers. Help me!!!

* A scarf/hood thingy (I think Diana Vreeland called them ’snoods’) -I’ve been looking and I still can’t find one!

I’m not going to add anything to the list because I just bought a new Macbook and I’m pretty broke. But I figure everything else was on the list before I bought the Mac so it doesn’t really count.

How are you guys going with your Autumn Wishlists? Much luck? Tell me what your hankering after this Autumn!

Love Lady Smaggle

I got some sweet purple Nike ‘bowling style’ shoes when I lived in England a couple of years ago. They are purple and dark green. So so comfy to walk around in, alot better than my chuck taylors (which were purchased around the same time) that gave me blsters when I walked around Paris.

Maybe have a look around the Nike shops, my 2 pairs in England were an utter bargain, 2 pairs for 20 QUID!. Yipeeee. Now I am back in Australia and I miss the variety of shops. Boo.

Nicoleeeee - Oooooh! They sound great. See I love the look of the chuck taylors but I can’t handle blisters. I’m such a sooky la la if my feet hurt. I’ll def look around some Nikes. I hear Tigers are quite good as well?

  3. Mrs Munk | April 2nd, 2008 | 12:15 am

hmm, well, the only thing I really wanted was some funky hats. And I got those from etsy and from Sydney, so I’m a happy girl!
Actually, I need some new socks and some clothes that aren’t black, brown or grey. So, thats on the list now!

  4. Kerrin | April 2nd, 2008 | 12:53 am

I like the Adidas 3 stripes - but I’ve never owned a pair, so I don’t know if they are comfy or not :-) they just look good. So that’s not very helpful when you want a great pair of sneakers to do heaps of walking in!! On my wishlist is some nice knits to wear to work - ones that will keep their shape all winter. And some dresses for work too. And knee-high boots in black.

  5. princessnaea | April 2nd, 2008 | 2:25 am

I dunno, I like Cons and they’ve never been a blister-issue for me unless I am walking literally all day (as in, for 18 hours straight, eg. Folk Fest). And I walk a lot.
Apparently Dunlop Volleys are pretty comfy but they offer about the same amount of foot cushioning.

    Autumn Wishlist
-comfy semi-high heeled boots I can walk in and simultaneously wear my super-high-waisted flared ex-Navy trousers. maybe little ankle booties? maybe in blue or some spectacular colour?
-less thigh girth so I can actually wear said trousers
-one of these http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=10508585 from charmschooldesign
-an actual haircut. I think a blunt, long fringe could be a go-er
-a grey wool double-breasted coat, possibly with belt
    -baggy jumpers a la Mary-Kate

  6. Lady Smaggle | April 2nd, 2008 | 2:32 am

Mrs Munk - Me too! Socks are high on my list. As is underwear and bras!

Kerrin - Oh I want one of the Country Road Merino wool black knits. They are gorgeous. I wanted to get one last year but I left it too long and they were all sold out. Better on to that one.

Na - My Volleys are a little lame I went canyoning in them once and they were great but walking up Mt Kosciuszko they killed me. Tell me about your trousers please. Have I met them yet? The feather would be super easy to make. I’m going to do another feather order soon… you in? I love Mary-Kate esqu jumpers I am just too massive for them.

  7. princessnaea | April 2nd, 2008 | 2:44 am

yes yes. if you can teach me how to make them I would so prefer that to buying for a gazillion $americanos.

well, the trousers are my favourite in the world but I haven’t been able to fit into them for about 5 years which is why you’ve never seen them. They’re ex-Navy dress trousers, black poly-wool blend with enormously flared legs and a really high, fitted waist. I can fit them now but I need to get rid of a teensy bit more flab for them to be comfortable and sit-down-in-able.

I have one thing to say to you about comfy, sexy sneakers: ONITSUKA TIGERS!! You can get these babies in lacey styles, beautiful asian prints etc… GO TO THE WEBSITE, they are hot!!

  9. sam | April 2nd, 2008 | 6:51 am

What do I want for autumn/winter…

    1. More tights (steel grey, grey blue, citron and/or plum)

    2. Things with high necklines (turtlenecks, cowls)

    3. Stripes.

    4. A warm ‘military-ish’ coat (maybe in Navy)

    5. Low brown/tan boots that I can wear for 8 hours on my feet.

    6. Highwaisted denim (in a light wash)

    7. To finish all my ‘do-it-yourself’ projects!

Oh and I saw some trench coats at Esprit (classic double breasted style - in black, tan, and berry) if you are still searching!

  10. sam | April 2nd, 2008 | 6:53 am

I forgot to add… I also have the faux-Prada AA socks. I have the plum and the brown; I love them on their own and over tights!!! Also got a great pair of Nine West sandals that complete the Prada look!

  11. niki | April 2nd, 2008 | 8:31 am

I was recently on a mission for sneakers that were both comfy and seriously pimp.

The only place I had luck in CBR was at Foot Locker (adidas kicks), and they only had two pairs I liked - both weren’t in my size. They were also unwilling to check stock at other stores, seemingly so I’d buy something then and there. (Idiots!) Sixonethree have a limited range - worth checking out though I guess.

You will have to go to Sydney. Check out Hype and Glue. I’m sure there are other stores (eg: adidas originals store in QVB) these are just the two I looked at. The range shits all over Canberra (unfortunately).

Alternatively, if you get an idea of your size in a store first up, why not customise your own at nikeid.com: http://nikeid.nike.com/nikeid/index.jhtml?_requestid=154779#pdp,nikeairmax_womens,1100103,all

While I can’t speak for Cons or Nikes, I find Adidas, Lonsdale and Tiger sneakers very comfy and fitting for all-day wear. (I bought Tigers on my last mission!)

  12. Nicole | April 2nd, 2008 | 4:26 pm

Well, I don’t know if these are exactly what you had in mind (when I bought them the salesguy called them ‘kicks’, but I used to run track practice in these so you should be good) but I have a pair of purple and green Kangaroos (the kind with the little zipper pockets on the side) and they are amazing!

They’re basically those but in purple, green and white.
And even if they’re not exactly hiking around mountains sneakers, they are definitely walking around Japan and looking awesome shoes!!

  13. Lady Smaggle | April 2nd, 2008 | 9:39 pm

Na - It’s pretty easy. I’ll check out my feather lady later today. Pay day! I can’t wait to meet your pants. They sound rather spectacular.

Emily - That’s just what my workmate Browny said! I like the idea of lace ones… I’m going to the website now!

Sam - Oh yes. Everyone needs plum tights. Although I am thinking I also need plum AA socks. Will be checking Esprit for a trench. That shop usually bores the crap out of me but I’ll give it a go! :-)

Niki - I’m thinking Tigers are the way to go. I have mega sneaker freak friend in Melbourne and I feel I would be betraying her if I purchased sneakers without her. You can build your own Nike’s? Wow I am so out of the running shoe loop…

Nicole - That’s just the sort of thing I am after. The sizes are a little scary and I’m too much of a sook to buy things in pounds. I’m real internet buyer but I just can’t buy shoes for some reason. I’ll keep a look out in Australia for stockists. Thanks so much for the tip!

  14. Fifi | April 4th, 2008 | 12:36 am

    Wishlist
    - red leather boots. Either flat or with a small heel, pref square toed but I’d settle for round. Mid-calf or knee high. This is lookin’ something like a pipe-dream cos none of the shops in this hick town have any red boots at all, and all the ones on ebay are cherry patent leather with lace ups and 12inch stilettos - read: whore’s boots.

    - shoes. I don’t know what they are, but I’m sure there exists SOMETHING out there that is not a boot that can be worn on your feet under jeans OR with a skirt that is not a sneaker and which actually covers your feet enough so that you don’t get chill blains in this freezing city…

    - red tights. I saw a girl in these yesterday and decided I liked them. To be worn at all times WITHOUT the red boots.

    - new hair. I think it’s time for me to go back to my winter tradition of being dark. I am coveting a workmate’s hairstyle at the moment which is a pixie cut in black with dark purple chunks… methinks my english skin (not to mention my hairdresser) may protest this plan…

    - winter dresses. I have a gazillion summer dresses, but seemingly only one black wool school ma’m looking winter one. I need the dresses to show off the tights and the boots…

  15. princessnaea | April 4th, 2008 | 12:46 am

oooo! I’ve actually got a new one:

jazz shoes (y’know, soft leather lace-ups with fairly thin soles). either white or pewter. I saw a pic of Anouk Lempere wearing pewter jazz shoes and it was K-RAD.

  16. Emma | April 7th, 2008 | 1:59 am

I know I’m a bit late responding, but I’m pretty sure I can knit you a snood (scarf/hood thingy) if you like. I have a couple of old 70s patterns and a new one made for me by a lovely Irish lass I found on ebay.
Let me know what you think.
