How to Dress Well At Any Age
Here is a re-cap of my How to Dress Well At Any Age series.
Have another browse and let me know what you think. I had a few readers request that I do a post on dressing in flattering colours and also on body shapes. Any other suggestions? Any wardrobe issues that are plaguing you? I’m a big nerd and I love assignments so gimme gimme!

I think body shapes is a good one.. speaking from an odly shaped point of view, Think nice shoulders, small(ish) boobs, rather full tum, nice ass then thunder thighs then lovely calves & ankles with small feet LOL and all that means is that most magazines that tell you how you should dress for your shape r no help to me lol..

Cupcake - I’ve had quite a few give me their dimensions while asking for help and it all sounds very do-able. Stay tuned, I’ll start working on it!
could you possibly do some winter dressing stuff? because although your outfits are really inspiring for others’ wardrobes, im here in the US and its the middle of the winter..
So glad you asked … how about “how to dress for a special occasion”, eg, a wedding (not as the bride of course). I have this thing against wearing black to a wedding, but am I being old-fashioned? Mum always told me not to wear black .. but she’s 70 now … so maybe time I let go of that rule??
Kerrin - Me too! I think black is very funereal. Will add it to the list!
Julia - No worries! I’ll do winter dressing post just for you.
Ooh, figures! The story of my life is how to dress while pasty of complexion and without boobs (and exclusively secondhand/clearance and somewhat modestly but unfrumpily). All tips appreciated!
And, love, love your blog, I’ve been reading for about a month now!
JB - Oh how lovely of you! I’m so glad you commented! Don’t worry I’m a pasty lass myself with bee-sting breasts so you’re sure to be covered.
And for me you need to do a post on how to dress if you are 5 ft 11 inches tall with child-bearing hips, big bum, footballer thighs, long elegant calves, and size 11 feet. I am prepared to spend a reasonable amount on clothes, but I’m size 14 on top and 16 below and most shops don’t go above 14. What are you thinking for me? maybe I can just buy a bolt of fabric from lincraft, cut a hole in the middle like I used to for my Barbies.
i also like the idea of a body shape how-to. i happen to have the classic hourglass shape, which seems so rare now, and it’s hard to find flattering clothing when you have 34dd boobs, hips and thighs, an average stomach and an absolutely flat ass; and you’re only 20 years old and hence, a poor college student. i wear about an 8 normally, but who can really say what size they wear when it seems every store has a different size chart?
Gervy - All right love I’ll work on it! And am hating the negative tone you’re using to describe yourself. You sound postively Amazonian and fabulous. By the way your hair is amazing…
Nicole - I’m so jealous of girls with waists AND boobs! I have neither. Try thrift stores and vintage stuff. Your figure sounds very 50’s so that might help. I’ll include a type for you too!
I don’t know if this technically counts as a specific assignment, as it would be different for everyone, but I do have a wardrobe issue plaguing me…
Having lost about 12 kilos (through a questionable combination of the theatre diet and the divorce diet - book in stores next year…) I am in the odd position of discovering that a)almost nothing I own fits me anymore and b) I’m way more comfortable wearing things that are short(er) and skimp(ier) than I was last year. a) sucks because I’m too poor to repurchase my whole wardrobe 2 sizes smaller and b) rocks for obvious reasons. I have experimented with some adaptation of my old clothes (read: cutting the bottom off some of my skirts) with varying results (a pen is not a tape measure…) but I need inspiration for how to size-down my wardrobe without downsizing it…
Fifi - Most interesting! I shall add it to my list… and I’ll sling you an email tomorrow to keep you going until I post about it!
