Another Magazine

Yesterday my lovely friend Na sent me the link for Another Magazine and their article about an interesting collabrative project between artist and fashion designers. The deal is that a fashion designer is paired with an artist and they create wearable art out of unusual objects. I have tried and tried to post the damn pictures but as they are scans of a magazine article it just ain’t kosher. So just trust me and go clickety click on the link. My favourites are:

Number 2 - The Riccardo Tisci rubber tubes piece. It’s like the Matrix but pretty.

Number 5 - The Christopher Bailey for Burberry dress made from clothes pegs. I would never have know had I not been told what it’s made from.

Number 7 - The Stella Mccartney white gold rabbits. I couldn’t even tell you what the dress looks. It’s those rabbits that got me. Jewellery pornography.

Let me know what you think. Na’s favourite is Sophia Kokosalaki’s dress which she says ‘looks like cotton candy solidified’… How beautiful.

Today was super busy again at work so I only just had time to take this photo. I clearly didn’t have time to open my eyes though. This afternoon I am going shopping and then having dinner with my best mate from high school!

* Black short cardigan from Target

* Black and sequined skirt gift from friend

* Black flats from a play

Hel-looks

I love street style blogs. But the thing that I adore the most is that they are so diverse. One of my favourites is Hel-looks from Helsinki in Finland. This website comes from the talented Liisa Jokinen and Sampo Karjalainen who have dedicated their site as a tribute to Fruits and Street Magazines. They have an amazing eye for style and their photography is simple, clean and crisp. Everyone on their site looks like a princess or a viking and their fashions are so cool. I mean really cool. Like those people you see wearing the strangest combination of clothing and somehow they look like they walked out of ID magazine and fell into Johnny Depps closet…

Etsy… Again

stuff.jpg

Okay Etsy, I forgive you. Today I recieved in the post a beautiful package from Tilly Bloom. My two gorgeous pins arrived in a lovely box with a red flower nestled softly in cotton wool. I also received a personal receipt, a ginger tea bag, a voucher for free shipping with my next purchase as well as a few business cards. All I can say is that the customer service I have recieved from Ms Bloom is exceptional and I am also delighted with the product. I am off to Etsy to leave much positive feedback and praise for this fantastic store. And so my abusive relationship with Etsy continues…

Today was hideously busy at work so I am posting this at home. My internet is so slow I actually had time to have a cup of tea while this photo uploaded.

Etsy 2

Etsy. My love. Why do you taunt me so? I give you hours of my time and lovingly devote my finances to a few of your stores when you abuse my affection by throwing more in face? Today the object of my deception is Robin’s Jewellery Box. I am sure that Robin is a lovely lady and has no idea the part she plays in this sordid nightmare. Take one look at her treasures and you will see she is full of sugar, sunshine and roses. In polymer clay form. Her tiny little plates of heaven are hand crafted and look so life like one salivates at the very sight of them. And I am sorry to say that she is firmly in the grasp of the evil Queen Etsy and is not set for release anytime soon. Here are my favourites of her delectable treats. And in true Smaggle form I am going to blog about her store and try to kid myself that I am strong enough to resist the temptation of purchase. And then tomorrow I’ll cave… But can you blame me?

Today is fairly quiet at work so I had time to post my outfit early. This afternoon I am off to visit my friend and her little baby and then I am planning on doing nothing tonight because my weekend was so damn busy!

* White spider web top Tree of Life (around ten years ago…)

* Black and white ruffled skirt from Elle Would

* Brown boots from Red Path

* Michael Jackson charm bracelet Smaggle Made (will post a close up soon)

I read this article in The New York Times on the absence of black models on the catwalk during this season of fashion shows. I was pretty appalled. Mostly because I didn’t even notice and that made me feel like pre-conditioned moron who blindly surfs fashion websites and doesn’t question the fact that most of the models are caucasian. I also came across the post Red Bow on the fabulous site Flying Saucer about red haired models and lipstick. The young lady to whom this website belongs has the most gorgeous long, curly red hair and a fabulous sense of style. Her colouring is spectacular and yet there is hardly any representation of her in the media. Just something for us ’standard’ girls to have a think about…

5 Style Don’ts…

I know it’s negative and but lets be honest here. Some people need to be told…

* Muffin top is never okay. The worst is a skin baring muffin top. Just get yourself a longer top and higher pants and get it the hell out of my sight because my interest in your breakfast is non-existent.

* If you are going to wear to tracksuit pants in public don’t accessorise. A perfectly made up face with massive dangly earrings and bracelets with your saggy poo-in-the-pants trackies is not a good look. And glitter doesn’t help either.

* Ugg boots. Just don’t.

* Too much of anything. Make-up, leg, cleavage… it’s all bad.

* Chipped nail polish. I know I am a big fat Virgo over here but it’s really tacky. It’s also lazy. Either remove it or re-do it. Whatever you do don’t chip at it with your teeth. Especially if the polish is red. I admit I indulged in a bit of chewing in a  particularly stagnant work meeting recently and left looking like I had an infectious gum disease.

Today was really busy for a Sunday. We had a BBQ and the guests stayed for 8 hours! I had to go to rehearsal half way through but when I came back everyone was still here drinking red wine and playing Pictionary. It was a lovely day. This is the only photo I took that looked even remotely like what I wearing…

* Beige skirt from Chin Chin

* White sparkle wife beater from Portmans

* Black cardigan from Target

* White knitting needle bangle from gallery in Sydney

* Black thongs

* Bouvier earrings from Bijoux

* Aviators

 F.Y.I - This skirt ended up smeared with chili octopus at the end of the night.
